How to get involved with NeRAIN

To become a volunteer, follow these steps

  1. Read through the website and get familiar with the project. You may consider reading some of the “how to” information in the links on this page.

  2. Create an account.
  3. Create a rain gauge location.
  4. Acquire a rain gauge.

    You’ll need a good gauge, marked in hundredths of an inch. Many NRDs are able to supply new gauges to volunteers; if none are available, we’ll let you know where to get an inexpensive, high-quality gauge.

  5. Meet with your regional coordinator for training on the use of the gauge and activation of the rain gauge location. Training will take less than an hour, and will cover the basics of gauge location, usage, and reporting.
  6. Begin entering data on this website.
